Keep Your Littmann® Stethoscope Performing at Its Best

Littmann® stethoscopes are trusted for reliability and excellent acoustics. Regular cleaning and care help maintain this performance over time. Learn what to consider and which products support effective stethoscope maintenance.

Correct Cleaning and Care

To maintain the high acoustic performance of your Littmann® stethoscope, regular and proper cleaning and care are essential. These measures also support the long service life of the stethoscope and help preserve its professional, polished appearance.


Cleaning & Care Tips

After each patient contact, clean your stethoscope using a 70% isopropyl alcohol disinfectant wipe or a cloth moistened with soap and water. In busy clinical environments, ready-to-use disinfectant wipes are particularly practical due to their quick and efficient application. If individual components such as the diaphragm, eartips or non-chill ring become damaged, original Littmann® replacement part kits are available.

Please also note the following:
  • Do not subject your stethoscope to any sterilisation processes.
  • Never remove the diaphragm on Littmann® Master Series stethoscopes.
  • Standard diaphragms may be removed for cleaning.
  • Protect your stethoscope from extreme heat or cold, solvents and oils.

Care of Eartips

Eartips can be removed from the ear tubes for cleaning. Gently pull on the eartips to remove them without causing damage. Ensure all parts are completely dry before reattaching the eartips. To refit, compress the narrow end of the eartip and slide it onto the ear tube until it clicks into place. Damaged eartips should be replaced.


Care of the Tubing

Most Littmann® stethoscope tubes are made of PVC, which can harden if exposed to body fluids such as sweat over time. If you typically wear your stethoscope around your neck, we recommend positioning it on the collar of your coat to avoid direct contact with the skin.
