Precise Measurement of Body Temperature

How Thermometers Work
Different types of thermometers not only vary in how measurements are taken but also in how they function. In thermometers with a measuring tip, the body temperature is measured through contact. The electrical conductivity of the sensor inside the tip changes as the temperature changes. Infrared thermometers, on the other hand, enable contactless temperature measurement on surfaces. This works because all surfaces above 0°C emit infrared radiation, which the thermometer detects. Typically, a lens focuses this IR energy onto a detector, which converts it into an electrical signal for measurement.
