Ophthalmoscopes for Examination of the Ocular Fundus
Ophthalmoscopes are diagnostic instruments used to examine the ocular fundus for changes (ophthalmoscopy). Especially the retina and the blood vessels that supply the eye can be inspected during an ophthalmoscopy.
Basically, a distinction can be made between direct and indirect ophthalmoscopy. Direct ophthalmoscopy uses an ophthalmoscope to examine the ocular fundus from a close distance. Indirect ophthalmoscopy requires a magnifying glass and a light source, such as a slit lamp. Since the distance is greater with this examination method, many patients find it more comfortable.
Most direct ophthalmoscopy instruments consist of an instrument head and a handle and are available with different light sources. LED lamps have a longer service life as well as a higher illuminance than xenon halogen lamps. Another advantage of LED lamps is their low energy consumption, which is reflected in less frequent charging cycles.
KaWe & Welch Ally: Renowned Manufacturers, High-quality Instruments
In this category, you will find a wide selection of ophthalmic instruments from KaWe and Welch Allyn. KaWe ophthalmoscopes are known for their high-quality construction, long service life, precise adjustment and excellent diagnostic performance. Whether you choose the KaWe Eurolight E10 Ophthalmoscope with a robust metal battery/charging handle and uniform illumination, or the practical KaWe Medcenter 5000 Set featuring both otoscope and ophthalmoscope heads in various configurations – our shop offers the ideal KaWe instruments to support your clinical workflow.
Many instruments, such as the KaWe PICCOLIGHT, can also be used on undilated pupils. They are designed to provide a clear view of the fundus without the need for pharmacological pupil dilation. This is particularly comfortable for patients, as their ability to drive is not impaired after the examination.
Monocular Indirect Ophthalmoscopy with the PanOptic Ophthalmoscope
A panoramic view of the ocular fundus is provided by the Ophthalmoscope Elite Coax Plus Optical System HPX Lamp from Welch Allyn. The larger field of view ensures a perfect overview and facilitates diagnosis. It has an iris selection dial with 6 irises, a lens selection dial with 68 lenses and an HPX halogen lamp which provides realistic colours of the examined tissue. The ophthalmoscope with particularly high quality is comparable to the Heine Beta 200 or Heine Beta 400.
