Ultrasound Systems

Ultrasound systems are among the most versatile imaging technologies in modern medicine and are used across almost all clinical specialties. The range at Praxisdienst is intended exclusively for physicians, healthcare professionals, and healthcare institutions; devices for home use or cosmetic applications are deliberately excluded. The portfolio includes stationary sonography systems, portable ultrasound devices for home visits, and wireless handheld units, covering a wide spectrum of diagnostic and clinical applications. All systems are classified as Class II medical devices and comply with the requirements of the Medical Device Regulation (MDR). The CE marking confirms conformity with applicable European standards.

Operating Principle of Ultrasound Systems

An ultrasound system generates internal body images by emitting high-frequency sound waves via a transducer and capturing the echoes reflected from tissue interfaces. Based on the travel time and intensity of these echoes, the system produces real-time cross-sectional images without the use of ionising radiation. The standard imaging mode is B-mode, which displays anatomical structures as two-dimensional greyscale images. 2D sonography provides conventional cross-sectional views, 3D imaging generates volumetric data, and 4D imaging adds real-time motion to these volumes.

In vascular diagnostics, the Doppler function plays a central role, enabling visualisation of blood flow and measurement of both direction and velocity of circulation. Transducer selection is equally important for clinical use: linear probes with high frequencies are suitable for superficial structures such as the thyroid or blood vessels, convex probes provide greater penetration depth and are primarily used in abdominal imaging, while sector probes with a small contact surface are mainly used in cardiology.

Types of Ultrasound Systems

Which ultrasound system is suitable depends on the medical specialty, point of use, and budget. Four device categories cover different clinical requirements.

Stationary Sonography Systems

Console-based stationary sonography systems deliver maximum image quality and support multiple probe configurations. Advanced 2D, 3D, and 4D imaging, together with high-performance Doppler modes, make them the preferred choice for hospitals and specialist practices. They are designed for physicians with high examination volumes and a strong demand for advanced diagnostic detail.

Mobile and Portable Ultrasound Systems

Mobile ultrasound systems in laptop format combine full functionality with a compact design and can be moved between examination rooms or used for home visits. They are particularly suitable for general practice and clinics with multiple treatment areas.

Handheld Ultrasound Systems

Handheld ultrasound systems are the most compact device category and transmit images wirelessly to a smartphone or tablet. Ready for immediate use, they are particularly useful in emergency medicine, emergency departments, and for rapid on-site assessment in pre-hospital settings.

Ultrasound Therapy Devices

Ultrasound therapy devices serve a different purpose, using sound waves in the 1–3 MHz range for thermal and therapeutic applications. They are primarily used in physiotherapy, naturopathic practice, and pain management to support circulation and tissue regeneration.

Buying Decision: Probes, Accessories and Selection Criteria

When selecting an ultrasound system, the key factors are not the device name itself but the right combination of probe, application, and software. Linear probes are used for vascular and musculoskeletal imaging, convex probes for abdominal diagnostics, and sector probes for cardiology. Accessories should also be considered early on—such as additional probes, ultrasound gel, reporting printers, and interfaces to practice software—as they directly impact workflow and long-term system efficiency. Anyone looking to buy an ultrasound system should therefore factor in both current and future requirements.

Brands in the Praxisdienst Range

The Praxisdienst range includes several established manufacturers, each with distinct strengths. Chison Medical Technologies forms a key part of the portfolio with multiple colour Doppler systems: the portable CHISON SonoEye P2 with a 7.5 MHz linear probe is designed for superficial imaging, while the CHISON ECO3 Expert with a C3-A convex probe is suited to abdominal and general diagnostics. For high-performance mobile use, SonoScape offers the SonoScape S11 Plus, while the portable YOUKEY Q7 provides a cost-effective black-and-white alternative.

International brands such as GE Healthcare are also major players in the ultrasound market. Strong search demand for GE ultrasound system pricing reflects the brand’s visibility in the sector. Current availability is best checked using the attribute filter or by contacting our specialist customer service team.

Frequently Asked Questions about Ultrasound Devices

Which ultrasound device is suitable for a medical practice? +

The choice depends on the medical speciality: for general practice and home visits, a portable or mobile ultrasound system is usually ideal. Hospitals with high examination volumes typically rely on stationary ultrasound systems, while emergency services use handheld devices. It is essential that the available probes match the intended range of examinations.

How much does a medical ultrasound device cost? +

Prices range from a few thousand euros for basic portable systems to significantly higher five-figure sums for fully equipped stationary ultrasound systems. The cost depends on image quality, feature set, Doppler capabilities and accessories. When purchasing an ultrasound device, it is important to factor in probes, software and service.

How much does a portable or mobile ultrasound system cost? +

Portable and mobile ultrasound systems generally fall within the lower to mid-price range and often represent an entry point into professional sonography. Pricing varies depending on configuration, number of probes and imaging features; a mobile ultrasound system with colour Doppler is more expensive than a basic black-and-white unit.

What is the difference between stationary and mobile ultrasound systems? +

Stationary systems offer the highest image quality, the widest range of functions and support multiple probes, but they are fixed in place. Mobile systems are more compact, lightweight and flexible, making them suitable for use across different rooms or for home visits. The choice involves balancing diagnostic performance with mobility.

How does an ultrasound device work? +

An ultrasound device transmits high-frequency sound waves into the body via a transducer and receives the echoes reflected at tissue boundaries. Based on the time delay and intensity of these echoes, a real-time cross-sectional image is generated—without the use of ionising radiation.

Buy Ultrasound Systems from Praxisdienst

Praxisdienst offers a wide range of ultrasound systems, from stationary sonography units to portable and mobile devices as well as wireless handheld solutions. Leading manufacturers such as Chison, SonoScape, and YOUKEY cover applications in diagnostic imaging and pain therapy. The attribute filter allows direct comparison of systems by design, probe type, and imaging capabilities.

Ultrasound systems are complex medical devices. The right choice depends on specialty, application area, and budget. Our specialist customer service team is available for advice by telephone, email, or live chat.

For additional options, it is worth exploring related categories such as Diagnostics, compatible Ultrasound Probes, and Sonography Accessories.
