Gauze and Cellulose Swabs

Swabs are dressing materials with versatile applications. Thanks to their high absorbency, they are ideal for removing blood, secretions, water, and debris from wounds. Gauze swabs or cellulose swabs are most commonly used. Gauze swabs are particularly suitable for surgical use, as they are manufactured in a way that prevents shedding of fibres or threads. Cellulose swabs are more often used in outpatient settings.

Swabs are generally available on sterile or non-sterile rolls and are pre-cut for immediate use. For quick access, the rolls are often stored in a dispenser box, allowing easy removal for tasks such as applying skin disinfectants or stopping minor bleeding from small puncture wounds. Swabs are not only suitable as absorbent material but can also be used for padding small dressings or even as a wound covering.

Wide Range of Sterile & Non-Sterile Swabs

In the Gauze Balls & Swabs category, we offer a comprehensive selection of different types of swabs. Particularly popular among cellulose swabs are the Pur-Zellin Swabs from Hartmann. These are made from highly bleached dressing cellulose, which is dust-free and abrasion-resistant, making them ideal for skin disinfection or as absorbent pads, for example, after blood collection. The Pur-Zellin swabs are pre-cut on a sterile roll of 500 pieces and can be safely stored in a dispenser box.

For skin cleansing and disinfection, our shop also offers ready-to-use alcohol swabs from Teqler. These swabs are soaked in 70% isopropyl alcohol and are suitable for local disinfection during punctures or injections. Since the single-use alcohol swabs are individually packaged, they are additionally protected against drying out.

For wound care, sling gauze swabs are frequently used. These swabs are made from dressing gauze with inward-facing cut edges, which prevent the ends from fraying. Thanks to the highly absorbent material, looped gauze swabs are ideal for absorbing wound exudate and for applying disinfectant. A common size for this type of swab is plum-sized, but they are available in various sizes depending on your needs.

In addition to sterile and non-sterile cellulose and gauze swabs, we also offer specialised swabs, such as the Pro-ophta lancet sponges from Lohmann-Rauscher, for use in ophthalmological procedures. Suitable accessories, such as swab forceps or the Pur-Zellin box from Hartmann, are also available.
