Irrigation Cannulas for Wound Irrigation, Application and Aspiration

Irrigation cannulas are used in clinical practice for targeted wound irrigation, fluid application and gentle aspiration of secretions. They are particularly suitable for atraumatic wound care, fistula tracts and other hard-to-reach anatomical areas. Depending on the application, sterile and non-sterile single-use irrigation cannulas are available in flexible plastic, as well as high-quality single-use and reusable stainless steel versions.

Irrigation cannulas are available in straight or curved designs and typically feature a standardised Luer Lock connection for secure attachment to syringes. Various lengths and diameters allow precise adaptation to different clinical requirements.

Which Irrigation Cannula for Which Application?

Straight
For Direct Access
Suitable for easily accessible wound channels and for precise wound irrigation and fluid application.
Curved
For Hard-to-Reach Areas
Facilitates use in narrow or deep wound cavities and improves access in complex anatomical areas.
Single-Use
For Hygienic Disposable Use
Plastic irrigation cannulas are designed for single use and require no reprocessing, making them suitable for sterile wound care.
Reusable
For Repeated Use
Metal irrigation cannulas are robust and, depending on the design, can be disinfected or sterilised, making them suitable for repeated use.

Single-Use or Reusable Irrigation Cannulas?

Single-Use
Hygienic and Ready for Immediate Use

Single-use irrigation cannulas made of plastic are designed for one-time use and are particularly suitable for sterile wound care environments.

  • No reprocessing required
  • Ideal for sterile clinical applications
  • Saves time in daily clinical workflows
  • Flexible and versatile use
Reusable
Economical and Durable

Reusable stainless steel irrigation cannulas are robust and suitable for repeated use in clinical environments.

  • Can be disinfected and sterilised
  • Suitable for frequent clinical use
  • High material durability and resistance
  • Precise application thanks to stable construction

Key Features of Irrigation Cannulas

When selecting an irrigation cannula, the focus is less on the basic type and more on the clinical application. Key factors include irrigation precision and wound accessibility.

A secure syringe connection is essential. Models with a Luer Lock connection ensure a reliable fit and controlled fluid delivery.

Size selection is also important. Length and diameter influence reach and accuracy, especially in deep or narrow wound areas.

Material choice also affects workflow efficiency: single-use models reduce reprocessing effort, while stainless steel cannulas support repeated use and consistent application.

Overall, selection should always ensure safe, controlled and minimally invasive application.
