Manual sphygmomanometers are valued by many physicians for their precise readings and are useful, for example, in detecting hypertension. They consist of a manometer to record the measurements, a tube, and an upper-arm cuff.

Manual Sphygmomanometers for Adults – Wide Selection

Unlike electronic devices, which are also available as wrist sphygmomanometers, mechanical sphygmomanometers are only available as upper-arm devices. Typically, a stethoscope is used in addition to measure blood pressure. It is important to ensure the cuff is positioned correctly to guarantee a reliable and accurate measurement. Most cuffs are marked to indicate the proper placement on the patient’s arm. The scale should also be sufficiently large so that readings can be taken quickly and precisely.

We also offer devices with dual-tube technology, such as the boso-roid II. Dual-tube technology ensures that the pressure from the pump reaches the cuff first and only then the measuring mechanism, which cushions the pressure and protects the instrument’s mechanics.

Sphygmomanometers are generally equipped with standard cuffs. Depending on the model, you may also receive sphygmomanometer sets that include cuffs in various sizes. For adults with large upper arms, there are also XL cuffs, such as the boso Clinicus II cuffs. These large cuffs are suitable for arm circumferences from 41 cm and are available in black.

Since the sphygmomanometer cuff is reusable and often used to measure multiple patients daily, regular cleaning and disinfection of the cuff is important to minimise the risk of germ transmission. As a hygienic alternative, single-use protective strips can also be used. These self-adhesive strips are applied to the patient’s skin before measuring blood pressure, preventing direct contact with the sphygmomanometer cuff.

For adolescents and children, smaller cuffs must be used due to their smaller upper-arm circumference. For example, the manual DuraShock Sphygmomanometer Set is recommended. The set includes a cuff for adolescents, one for larger children, and one for smaller children. The sphygmomanometer also allows rapid inflation via the large bulb and precise deflation through a fine-adjustment valve.
