Vascular Dopplers and Foetal Dopplers
Both ultrasound machines touch on the principle of Doppler sonography with which frequency changes from sound waves generated by structural movements are made 'visible' i.e. blood flow or foetal heart activity. As a non-invasive and innocuous procedure, sonography is crucial for angiology and gynaecology diagnostics.
Vascular Dopplers for Examination of Veins
Vascular Dopplers are used in angiology to support non-invasive diagnosis of vascular disorders. They enable the detection of conditions such as varicose veins, venous thrombosis and reflux flow caused by incompetent venous valves.
Doppler ultrasound allows the blood flow velocity within the examined vessel to be assessed acoustically. This makes the identification of vascular stenosis and occlusions reliable and efficient. Alternative sonographic methods include two-dimensional ultrasound, compression sonography, duplex sonography and colour duplex sonography.
A popular Doppler for vascular assessments is the HI-dop Vascular Doppler. With its integrated high-performance loudspeaker and headphone socket, it is suitable for a wide range of clinical applications. Matching probes for this vascular Doppler are also available from us in various configurations at competitive prices.
The Different Devices
Generally, one differentiates between the CW Doppler (continuous wave Doppler) and the PW Doppler (pulsed wave Doppler). CW Dopplers can be used to precisely measure and display high flow velocities, as their probe transmits and receives continuously. As a result, they are often used in cardiology.
For preciser results in the ultrasound depth, we recommend the use of a PW Doppler. The probe sends out high frequency pulses instead of one continuous signal. Additionally, the reflecting signal is only received in a very short time frame. With its help, the medical professional determines the size and localisation of the examined area.
In addition, this category also offers CTG devices to monitor baby movement, foetal heartbeat and labour in pregnant women.
Foetal Dopplers to Monitor the Heartbeats of an Unborn Child
Fetal Dopplers are essential diagnostic devices in gynaecology and obstetrics. Even during pregnancy, they allow clinicians to monitor the baby's heart tones in the womb. We offer both compact, portable fetal Dopplers and fetal monitors with colour displays and printers for stationary use. All devices feature high-quality speakers, and many models also support headphone connections.
For example, the UltraTec PD1+ Fetal Doppler comes with a 2 MHz probe and integrated speakers, allowing the fetal heart rate of unborn babies to be clearly heard. The Doppler is modern and ergonomic, with internal signal processing that effectively reduces interfering noise.
The Ultrasound Angle
The Doppler frequency depends on the ultrasound angle. A steeper insonation angle increases the number of erythrocytes detected by the sound wave, resulting in a stronger Doppler signal with minimal scatter. Accordingly, a 90° angle produces the maximum signal, while a 0° angle generates no Doppler shift.
