For placing various filling materials, specially designed instruments are used. The filling instruments are mostly double-ended and made of medical stainless steel. The stainless dental instruments generally feature textured handles, are disinfectable and autoclavable, and can be used for composite or other materials.

Shaping the Plastic Filling

The ball condenser, for example, is suitable for compacting plastic materials such as composite fillings, cement, or even amalgam within the tooth. The double-ended instruments made of stainless steel feature curved working ends and an 8-sided, textured handle.

For condensing, shaping, and smoothing the placed filling, the White filling instrument is ideal. This single-ended hand instrument has a combination of a spatula and a ball at the working end. The ball allows the filling to be firmly pressed and compacted into the tooth.

The spatula enables removal of excess material as well as shaping of the filling surfaces.

The stainless steel spatula is particularly versatile and, due to its special design, can be used for composite, plastic, and other dental materials. The Heidemann spatula fits very well in the hand and is, of course, disinfectable and autoclavable.
