High-Quality Bandages for Dressings
Gauze and fixation bandages are popular medical dressings, offering great flexibility for wound care as well as for creating stabilising or compressive bandages. Depending on your needs, bandages are available in various widths and with different properties. The main types include non-elastic and elastic fixation bandages, as well as cohesive dressing materials. Elastic bandages are also commonly used in sports medicine to support the treatment of injured limbs and associated musculoskeletal damage.
At Praxisdienst, you will find high-quality elastic and non-elastic bandages, wound closure products, and plasters in the Dressings category to meet your professional needs.
Versatile Elastic Gauze Bandages
Depending on the type of injury and the intended use of the dressing, a choice can be made between elastic and non-elastic bandages. Elastic bandages are primarily used to secure wound dressings, such as ES-compresses, on conical body parts or joints. When strong compression of the limbs is required, for example due to oedema, elastic bandages are ideal for applying compression bandages. Short-stretch elastic bandages, such as Ideal bandages, are often used, as they provide low resting pressure combined with high working pressure.
The bandages contain a high proportion of breathable cotton and offer comfortable wear and excellent air permeability. This makes elastic dressing materials particularly skin-friendly even during long-term use, while still allowing a natural range of joint movement.
Ideal Bandages for Use as Support and Compression Bandages
Ideal bandages are commonly used in sports medicine and are suitable, among other things, for securing injured limbs. Made from cotton, these elastic fixation bandages are also used for prophylactic and compressive bandages in cases of oedema and thrombophlebitis. Ideal bandages can be divided into cohesive and textile short-stretch bandages. While cohesive bandages are self-adhesive and generally do not require additional fixation, textile short-stretch Ideal bandages need to be secured with clips for optimal, slip-resistant hold.
Non-Elastic Gauze Bandages
These rigid bandages are often used as a stabilising wrap to immobilize body parts. For the treatment of wounds, injuries, and burns, they are among the most important dressing materials alongside compresses and plasters.
Gauze bandages are usually unsterile, as they typically do not come into direct contact with the wound or wound surface. However, they are sterilizable and can be sterilised prior to use if needed. For special applications, such as wound tamponade or postoperative care of exposed tendon sheaths and joints, sterile gauze bandages are also available. These provide, in addition to sterile dressings, an extra layer of infection risk reduction.
Fixation Bandages for Splints, Support Bandages, Over- & Underwraps
Traditional fixation bandages are often cohesive, meaning they adhere to themselves and provide excellent stability. Therefore, fixation bandages are used, among other things, to secure splints or to apply light support bandages (e.g., after sprains or muscle fibre injuries). They are also very suitable as an overwrap for plaster and cast bandages. Like gauze bandages, fixation bandages are frequently used as a textile underwrap to protect the skin and increase the comfort of the dressing worn on top, such as Elastomull from BSN Medical.
Medical Bandages Available in Various Sizes & Colours
Non-elastic and elastic fixation bandages, ideal bandages, and short-stretch bandages are available in a variety of widths and sizes, allowing the bandage to be selected according to specific needs and applications.
Fixation bandages are no longer available only in white, as was common in the past, but now come in a wide range of colours. Praxisdienst offers a broad selection of gauze and fixation bandages from renowned manufacturers such as Hartmann, MaiMed, BSN Medical GmbH, and Lohmann-Rauscher at especially competitive prices.
