Plaster Casts
5Plaster Casts for Creating Casts and Splints
Ready-to-use plaster bandages, such as the Cellona plaster bandages from Lohmann & Rauscher, are used in clinics and hospitals to create customised plaster casts or splints. A plaster bandage or roll consists of gauze impregnated with a plaster mixture. Casts made from these bandages are ideal for immobilising fractures or joint injuries. The plaster bandages we offer are easy to shape and model, feature a short setting time, and allow smooth, creamy application of the plaster.
In addition to plaster bandages for conservative casts, we also offer Longuettes for making plaster splints and wide Longuettes for producing plaster corsets and recumbent shells. The accompanying tubular bandage for use under the cast can be found in our Tubular Bandages category.
We also provide accessories for our plaster bandages, including walking supports that can be easily integrated into the cast. These supports make walking with a cast easier by acting as a rolling aid and providing extra cushioning when placing weight on the cast. Additionally, we offer abrasion-resistant and shock-absorbing soles for plaster and synthetic casts, enabling physiologically correct movement while wearing the cast.

Padded or Non-Padded Plaster Cast?
Once swelling has subsided, most practitioners recommend a plaster cast without padding, as this allows the affected area to be more effectively immobilised. However, padding is always applied at the edges and over bony prominences to protect the skin and nerves.
