Buy IV Cannulas for Clinics, Practices and Nursing Care

IV cannulas – also known as peripheral venous catheters (PVC) or intravenous catheters – are used for safe peripheral venous access and provide reliable vascular access over an extended period. They are routinely used in everyday clinical work for infusion therapy, intravenous medication administration and diagnostic procedures. After puncture, the metal needle is removed while the flexible plastic catheter remains in the vein. This makes IV cannulas particularly suitable for repeated administration without the need for a new venepuncture.

Depending on requirements, different designs are available – from standard IV cannulas to safety IV cannulas with integrated protection mechanisms to reduce the risk of needlestick injuries. Variants with injection ports, wings or specialised connectors support flexible and safe use in daily clinical practice. In addition, suitable stylets can be used to temporarily seal the catheter hygienically and maintain lumen patency.

At Praxisdienst, you will find a wide selection of IV cannulas for various medical applications – from general practice care to hospital and emergency medicine.

Which IV cannula for Which Application?

For Standard Use
Classic IV Cannulas
For routine venous access in clinics and medical practices. Suitable for infusions, intravenous medication administration and blood sampling. Variants with wings or injection ports improve handling and ease of use.
For Enhanced Safety
Safety IV Cannulas
With an integrated safety mechanism to reduce the risk of needlestick injuries. Particularly suitable for high-risk settings such as wards, emergency departments and paramedic services.
For Advanced Requirements
Special IV Cannulas
Designed for specific clinical needs, such as difficult venous access, paediatrics, or specialised indications like contrast media administration.
For Extension Use
Extension Lines & IV Connectors
Separate extension sets and connectors enable a flexible extension of venous access. They reduce handling directly at the cannula and support hygienic infusion workflows.

Key Features of IV Cannulas

When selecting an IV cannula, size, material and design play a key role. Depending on the patient, venous conditions and intended use, different types may be more appropriate.

Size is typically indicated using the gauge system (G). Larger catheters allow higher flow rates and are commonly used for fluid therapy, transfusions or contrast media administration. Smaller sizes are particularly suitable for fragile veins, paediatric patients or difficult venous access.

Material is also important: many IV cannulas are made from flexible plastics such as FEP or polyurethane and are designed for atraumatic venous insertion. Models with wings, injection ports, or Luer/Luer-Lock connections facilitate fixation, medication delivery and connection to infusion systems.

Safety IV cannulas additionally feature integrated protection mechanisms that secure the needle after use, helping to reduce the risk of needlestick injuries.
