Tongue Depressors & Cotton Swabs for the Surgery & Hospital

In hospitals and surgeries, wooden tongue depressors are used to examine the mouth and throat of patients. They are usually made of wood or plastic, but some models are made from sterilisable stainless steel.

 

Tongue depressors are available in sterile or non-sterile versions and are designed not to cause injury to the patient in the sensitive oral cavity. That is why all edges are thoroughly rounded. The sterile tongue depressors from Maimed, for example, are individually packaged and made of birch wood in splinter-free quality.

 

Depressors for Hygienically Applying Ointments

The disposable wooden tongue depressors are also ideal for applying creams and ointments from bulk containers without direct contact thanks to their rounded edges. Using a fresh spatula each time effectively prevents contamination of the remaining product in the container.

 

Wooden tongue depressors or sterile mouth spatulas are highly cost-effective, as no additional processing costs are incurred after use. For example, the sterile, double-ended plastic mouth spatulas from Paul Hartmann feature ribbed grips on both ends for enhanced handling safety.

Mouth Care Swabs & Mouth Care Sets

In addition to wooden spatulas and cotton swabs, our wide range also includes products for oral hygiene. The mouth care swabs from Dahlhausen are ideal for moistening the oral cavity, for example in bedridden patients. They are soaked in a sugar-free lemon-flavored solution, making them suitable for use by diabetic patients as well.

 

The Fuhrmann Mouth Care Set, on the other hand, is primarily used in nursing and elderly care for intensive cleaning of the mouth and throat. In addition to mouth care swabs, it includes various containers and a patient label to record individual patient details directly on the set’s packaging.

Cotton Swabs for Sampling & Targeted Ointment Application

Unlike standard cotton swabs from retail stores, medical cotton swabs feature a 15 cm wooden stick with a single-sided cotton tip. They are sterilizable and ideal for precise application of ointments.

 

Long cotton swabs also allow for easy throat sampling. However, swabs with small cotton tips should not be used for ear cleaning, as they can push debris deeper into the ear canal.
