Proper Cleaning & Care of your Littmann® Stethoscope
Regular cleaning ensures optimal acoustic performance, extends the lifespan and leaves your stethoscope looking shiny and new.
General Cleaning Tips
Between each patient contact, you should clean your stethoscope with a 70% isopropanol disinfectant wipe or with a wipe soaked in soap and water. Ready-to-use disinfectant wipes are particularly suitable for quick and convenient application in busy work settings. If individual components such as the diaphragm, eartips or non-chill rim are damaged, spare parts kitss with original accessories for Littmann stethoscopes may be purchased.
Please note the following points:
- Do not subject your stethoscope to any sterilisation process.
- Never remove the diaphragm from the Master series.
- Standard diaphragms can be removed for cleaning.
- Keep your stethoscope away from extreme heat, cold, solvents and oils.
Eartip Care
Eartips can be removed from the eartubes for cleaning. To remove them from the eartubes, pull gently on the eartips. Make sure that all components are completely dry before reattaching the eartips. To reattach the ear tips, press the narrow side of the ear tips together and push them onto the eartubes until they click into place. If the ear tips are damaged, they should be replaced.
Stethoscope Tube Care
Most Littmann® stethoscope tubes are made of PVC, which can harden with prolonged exposure to body fluids like sweat. To prevent this, when wearing your stethoscope around your neck, we suggest placing it over your collar to avoid direct contact with your skin.
