The Rydel-Seiffer tuning fork is used to diagnose polyneuropathy damage and hearing impairment. The tuning fork’s dampers and base can both be removed.
For application in neurology or in the ENT field. The neurological tuning fork with dampers and base (C 64Hz/C 128Hz), based on the Rydel-Seiffer model, is used to help diagnose impaired sensitivity to vibrations (pallesthesia). Moreover, it can be used for the diagnosis of polyneuropathies (nervous disorders), which manifest themselves in a reduction of vibrational sensitivity.
With the Rydel-Seiffer tuning fork, one can also determine auditory damage. For this, the weights are removed and the vibrating tuning fork is placed on the middle of the head. In order to differentiate between middle-ear and inner-ear hearing impairment, the tuning fork can also be used to perform Rinne tests.
