Kinesiology Tape
Kinesiology Tape - Popular among Athletes
Nowadays, it is impossible to imagine sports therapy without the elastic kinesiology tape. However, the colourful bandages are not only very popular with athletes of numerous sport disciplines, but kinesio tape is also becoming increasingly popular in physiotherapy and in the medical field. The elastic tape is usually made of a cotton fabric coated with acrylic adhesive and typically has a stretch of about 30 - 40 %. Thus, the kinesio tape allows good freedom of movement during training. Bandages from most suppliers are not only air-permeable, but also sweat-resistant and waterproof, so that they can be worn without any problems while showering, bathing or swimming. Even going to the sauna is no problem with most of the kinesiology tapes available today.
The Kinesio-Tape is Free of Active Substances and therefore Particularly Gentle
The adhesive strips of the Kinesio tape in various colours fit the body perfectly when applied correctly and offer unrestricted freedom of movement. The kinesiological tape is free from active substances and is applied according to specific patterns depending on the purpose of the treatment. It can remain on the skin for up to a week. Kinesio taping is commonly used, for example, for shoulder lesions, neck pain, knee instabilities, injuries, swelling or muscles pain.
One of the most popular physiological tapes is the Kinesiology Tape Kintex Classic, which is suitable for all types of application. Kintex Kinesiology Tape is available on a roll in the colours blue, pink, green, red, beige and black. The backing material consists of 100 % cotton, to which a hypoallergenic acrylic adhesive is applied in an S-wave shape, which adheres particularly well even to muscles that move a lot. With its stretchability of 50 - 60 % in the longitudinal direction, the kinesio tape is particularly supportive. The elastic sports tape is supplied on a roll of 5 metres.
Due to the lack of medicinal substances, the application of kinesiology tape is gentle and free of side effects. However, caution is advised for patients who have a known patch allergy. It is recommended not to use the tape on those patients. Latex-free kinesiology tape, such as Teqler Kinesiology Tape, is suitable for taping patients suffering from latex allergy.
Taping Tips: How to Successfully Apply Kinesiology Tape
Here we have put together some tips for kinesio taping. This way, the tape will last as long as possible after taping and will not come off early.
Remove Body Hair
Kinesiology tape should always be applied to hair-free skin. This ensures that the tape can develop its full adhesive effect. Please do not apply tape to irritated or reddened skin.
Degrease Skin
Before applying the tape, the area to be taped should be degreased (e.g. with an alcohol-based skin disinfectant). This makes the tape last longer on the skin for most patients.
Rounding Off Corners
After cutting the tape to size, it is important to round off the corners. This prevents the tape from coming off the skin too quickly at the corners. This step also prolongs the durability of the tape.
Adequate Time Gap
Kinesiology tape should be applied at least 20-30 minutes before exercise. During this time, the adhesive can bond optimally with the skin and there is no risk of the tape coming off immediately.
Do not Apply Anchor Points Under Tension
The two anchor points of the kinesiology tape (the first and last 2-5 cm) are not applied using tension in most kinds of application. They are only used for fixation and provide a certain degree of stability.
Activate the Adhesive
After applying the tape, it is important to activate the adhesive so that the tape lasts as long as possible. To do this, rub the tape with light pressure for a few seconds - the resulting heat activates the adhesive.
