Sterile and Non-Sterile Swabs & Compresses for Professional Wound Care
Cotton gauze swabs & compress and are among the most commonly used dressing materials and are mainly used for the treatment of uncomplicated wounds. They are usually used as wound dressings - but can also be used for wound cleansing. Sterile dressings are generally used for wounds at risk of infection and in the operating theatre; some non-sterile gauze swabs can also be sterilised later if necessary.
The different types of medical swabs and compresses in our shop:
Fleece compresses are used for wound care in wounds that are rather light to moderately exuding. The non-woven material used is skin-friendly and permeable to air. VK Non-Woven Compresses from MaiMed, for example, are particularly popular because they are not only especially skin-friendly and soft but can also be autoclaved directly in the sterilisable paper bag if required. You can buy them in our medical supplies shop in packs of 100.
Gauze Swabs & Compresses
Dressing gauze consists of a wide-meshed, air-permeable fabric made of degreased cotton, making gauze wound dressings very absorbent. Thanks to these properties, non-sterile gauze swabs and sterile gauze swabs are often used as dressings for more heavily exuding wounds. The ES gauze compresses in our shop are also particularly popular. The swabs have folded-in cut edges which prevent fraying. This means that there are no annoying threads around the edges that could get left in the wound and cause infection. The gauze pads are available as sterile gauze swabs, or non-sterile gauze swabs in different pack sizes, depending on requirements.
Absorbent Gauze Swabs & Compresses
Highly absorbent swabs & compresses are usually used for heavily exuding wounds. These swabs and compresses are characterised by a particularly high absorption capacity and contain a layer of special fleece which prevents wound fluid from seeping through and thus effectively protects the patient's clothing. We stock a wide range of absorbent compresses in different pack sizes.
If wound healing is to be supported, it can be helpful to use individually packaged, ready-to-use impregnated ointment compresses. These contain an ointment that is free of active ingredients and protects the wound surface and the wound edges from drying out, thus promoting wound healing. Gel wound dressings, such as Suprasorb G, intensively moisturise, promote granulation and epithelialisation and also loosen necroses and wound coatings.
