Yes, the polihexanide contained has a germicidal effect. To ensure this, an exposure time of at least one minute must be observed. Please note that Prontosan is not a classic disinfectant but a wound irrigation solution. It is not intended to sterilise the wound, but only to reduce bacterial colonisation.
First of all, the dressing should be thoroughly soaked - preferably with the help of soaked compresses. Then the solution should be left to act for a longer period of time (at least 10 to 15 minutes - if necessary even longer in the case of heavy encrustation). Only when the old dressing material is sufficiently dissolved can it be removed carefully and without damaging the tissue.
The rinsing solution has a maximum shelf life of 8 weeks after opening. To ensure that the solution is not used for too long, you should note the date of opening on the bottle.
