Synthetic Cast
Synthetic Cast as an Alternative to a Plaster Cast
The synthetic cast represents an excellent alternative to the plaster cast. The quick hardening, low weight, high stability and non-sensitivity to water makes the synthetic cast the preferred cast among many doctors. In principle, the special padding makes bathing and showering possible with the synthetic cast.

Immobilising Cast Made from Polyester or Fibreglass
The base fabric of a cast bandage is typically either polyester or fibreglass and is interwoven with water activated synthetic resin. The water temperature and submersion time can increase or decrease the cast's modeling time. Just as with the plaster cast, the synthetic cast serves as an immobilising wrap e.g. for treating fractures.
An additional area of application for the synthetic cast is in the immobilisation of joints, such as after distortions or soft-tissue lesions. Contrary to orthoses, the cast almost completely immobilises the effected joint so as not to risk the healing process and prevent any concurring injuries. The cast can either be completely finished by hand or with the use of finishing longuettes.
