Steri-Strips
Wound Closure Strips
Closure strips, also known as Steri-Strips, are used to seal smaller wounds, such as small cuts and incisions. Due to their low risk of infection and uncomplicated application, wound closure via adhesive strips is the primary treatment option for such wounds, as opposed to surgical suture or staples. While surgical sutures creates new wounds, steri-strips do not. Additionally, the risk of infection with surgical suture that comes from the open stitches, is avoided when using the thin adhesive dressings.
Moreover, adhesive wound closure strips are typically pain-free to apply and they can be used without local anaesthesia. In order to prevent skin irritation, wound closure strips are made with a skin-friendly material and are coated with a well-wearing adhesive, such as acrylate glue. The skin closures are breathable and can remain on the wound for multiple days at a time.
Wound Closures for Excellent Cosmetic Outcomes
For wounds in cosmetically demanding areas, such as the face, wound closure strips are often the treatment of choice because they allow for unobtrusive scars and prevent scarring caused by suture. Steristrips are easy to manipulate and can be sterile stored over a long period of time.
Additionally, the strips are ideal for filling doctor and emergency bags as well as first aid kits.
