The Laryngoscope for Surgical & Emergency Use
The laryngoscope, also known as an intubation laryngoscope, is used for endotracheal intubation of patients in the operating theatre or for reanimation in emergency situations. With the help of a laryngoscope, the tube can be lead through the mouth and larynx and into the trachea.
The Laryngoscope Consists of a Handle & Laryngoscope Blade
A laryngoscope is composed of a handle and a laryngoscope blade. The device includes a light source, which illuminates the throat during laryngoscopy. This makes it much easier to direct the tube. The power source usually comes in the form of a battery.
There is a difference between a warm light laryngoscope and a cold light laryngoscope. A warm light laryngoscope has a light source in the form of a light bulb, directly in the laryngoscope blade. A cold light laryngoscope has the light source in the handle. From there, the light is transmitted via fibre optics to the blade.
