Fridges for Cold-Storage Medication
The medical fridge provides reliable cooling and best possible temperature consistency for medicine and vaccines of all kinds that need to be stored at low temperatures. Contrary to common refrigerators, medical refrigerators are often outfitted with special functions that should prevent critical storage temperature discrepancies.
They are separated by various shelves and drawers to clearly arrange stored pharmaceuticals. At Praxisdienst, we offer a large assortment of fridges from renowned manufacturers, such as Dometic, Kirsch and Labcold.
Special Functions for Temperature Consistency
The power loss or open door alarm is an indispensable component since the inside temperature of the medical fridge can quickly increase so high that the refrigerated medications can no longer be used, especially during summer.
Storage of the highest and lowest temperatures is part of quality management and should ensure that the cold-storage products inside the fridge will never be stored over or under the optimal temperature and that there will be no temperature deviations.
Many medical fridges are equipped with a locking door to prevent unauthorised access to the sensitive medications and expensive vaccines.
Depending upon the manufacturer and model, the door hinge can be varied. Countless devices already have automatic defrosting or circulation cooling to prevent freezing.
Spark Free Medical Fridges for Highly Flammable Materials
Specially designed for storing highly flammable materials, there are spark free fridges that have no sparking components inside, thus providing no risk of accidental ignition of flammable materials. This is generally the case for special laboratory fridges that are not filled with drugs, but rather with liquids and substances to be used in the laboratory. If you have any questions about these fridges or want to purchase one, just contact us.
DIN 13277 Regulates the Requirements of Medical Fridges
In order to ensure that the medical fridge is also suited for use in the general practice or pharmacy, it is recommended to use a refrigerator that complies with DIN 13277. This DIN norm states that the fridge should have a temperature range of +2°C - +8°C, a locking door and a safety mechanism to prevent negative temperatures.
Furthermore, the medical fridges must be compliant with DIN 58345 in emitting acoustic and visual alarms in the event of power failure or temperature deviations.
The pharmacy fridge from Labcold, for example, has a lockable door, a disinfectable IntelliCold® touchscreen control panel and data recording for optimal protection of the refrigerated supplies.
If you want a clear overview over the fridge's contents even when closed, you can also purchase the Liebherr MKUv 1613 medical fridge with glass door. Its efficient cooling system and 40mm thick insulation guarantee low energy consumption.
