Rigid Endoscopes for Various Disciplines
A rigid endoscope with a stable metal shaft allows for instrument insertion and is most often used in ENT, orthopaedics and minimally invasive operations. One possible area of application for a rigid endoscope is arthroscopy, which employs the use of a special arthroscope.
Endoscopes are used throughout medicine to examine and treat bodily orafices and hollow organs. The hose/tube formed instrument was developed in the mid 1900s and has since been consistently improved. Rigid endoscopes were complimented by flexible endoscopes in the mid 20th century, which are particularly useful for endoscopy in the gastrointestinal tract (gastroscopy), for colonoscopy and even for bronchoscopy.
