Instead, surgeries, hospitals and other healthcare facilities use disposable paper hand towels in wall-mounted paper towel dispensers. Hand Towels Made from Cellulose

When it comes to disposable paper hand towels a high absorbency is a must. The more a paper hand towel is absorbent, the lower the number of paper hand towels used when drying hands. As a result, absorbent washroom hand towels are a lot less expensive and more environmentally friendly. Cellulose is usually the material of choice in the production of paper hand towels as it is particularly good at absorbing moisture, is tear-resistant and lint-free.

In general, disposable paper hand towels are offered in white, green or their natural colour. The colour holds no significance as to their use and should not be seen as colour-coding. The choice of colour simply depends on personal taste. In addition, the paper towels are usually available in either 1-ply or 2-ply.

A Short Introduction to Folds & Folding

The offer of disposable paper hand towels is large and can be very confusing. The terms "folding" and "fold" are sometimes mixed up or used incorrectly, resulting in bad buys.

The fold stands for the way the disposable towel itself has been folded, while the folding indicates how the paper hand towels are laid together or bundled.

• With the C-fold, the paper is first folded down the middle so that it lies double, then the edges are folded inwardly to create the shape of a "C".
• With the V-fold, the hand towel is folded down the middle to create a "V" shape.
• With the Z-fold, the hand towel is folded twice to create a "Z" shape.
• With the W-fold, the disposable paper towel is folded three times to from a "W". What makes them special is, that this kind of tissues are generally connected through perforations instead of being interfolded.

The folding indicates how the paper towels are placed together. There are only two types of folding: layer folding and zig zag folding. In case of layer stacking, the paper towels are simply stacked on top of each other. This comes in handy if the towels are not used with a paper towel dispenser. In zig zag folding, the tissues are interlocked, so when one towel is withdrawn from the dispenser, the end of the next towel is pulled out as well without needing to be touched. This way, the untouched, clean towel is immediately ready for the next user.

Paper Towel Rolls as an Alternative to Folded Towels

The paper towel roll is an economical alternative to classic folded towels. This is particularly the case, if the paper towel dispenser has been filled incorrectly or the paper towels are of poor quality, causing too many towels to be withdrawn at the same time. This problem does not exist with paper rolls.

Paper rolls are available in different versions for different paper roll dispensers. One can distinguish between rolls for manual roll dispensers and rolls for sensor dispensers. With manual paper roll dispensers, the paper is torn off by hand at a tear-off plate, while automatic sensor dispensers release a fresh sheet at a predefined length, when the user holds their hand to the sensor.
