Face Masks & Respirators in the Fight Against COVID-19
Face masks and respirators are an essential item of personal protective equipment. Since the outbreak of COVID-19 and the spread of the Coronavirus around the world, wearing face masks and respirators has been one of the most important tools in the fight against COVID-19. If you wear a high-quality mask, it helps to protect you and others by reducing the chance of spreading COVID-19. It is important to remember to always clean your hands before you put your mask on, as well as before and after you take it off. Make sure it covers both your nose, mouth and chin. As face shields do not adequately cover the nose and mouth, and do not filter airborne particles, it is generally advised that people wear a face shield in addition to a face covering but not instead of one. A different level of protection against infection, e.g. from covid-19, is achieved depending on the type of face mask you wear. In the medical field, face masks fall broadly into two categories: classic surgical masks and particle-filtering half masks (FFP masks, e.g. FFP3). We offer a wide range of medical face masks for medical staff and patients to wear. Browse our selection of surgical masks and respirators and stock up today.
Surgical type masks are usually 3-ply, made of special non-woven fabric and can be fastened either with tie straps or ear loops, depending on the design. Surgical or medical face masks are intended for wear during examinations, treatments and in the operating theatre, where they are used to protect both medical staff and patients, preventing contamination and the spread of infection, e.g. of Coronavirus. Such face masks intercept droplets from the exhaled air and prevent staff from coming into contact with splashes of bodily secretions.
In the European Union, a disposable face mask must have a CE marking and comply with EN 14683. A distinction is made between Type I face masks, which have a bacterial filtering capacity of at least 95 % and Type II face masks, which have a bacterial filtering capacity of at least 98 %. Surgical masks that are also resistant to fluids correspond to type II R if they can withstand a splash pressure of at least 16 kPa.
Face masks are not only available in the classic medical colours blue, green or white, but also in a range of other colours, such as black or pink. As a rule, the non-sterile face coverings are supplied in a box of 50 pieces.
The 3-Ply Surgical Mask from Teqler can be individually adjusted to your face with the help of a nose clip, so that the mask fits perfectly on the nose. With a bacteria filtering performance of more than 99%, the mask meets the requirement for Type II EN 14683 and provides optimal protection in many areas of medicine as well as in COVID-19 risk environments.
The FFP mask is a respirator that covers the nose and mouth and, due to its shape, provides a much better seal than surgical masks. FFP masks are usually made of non-woven fabric and protect against the inhalation of particles & aqueous or oily aerosols. In most models, a nose clip ensures that the mask can be optimally adjusted to the face, does not protrude in the nose area, and is comfortable to wear. More expensive models often have an additional sealing lip that ensures that no air can enter unfiltered through the sides or at the chin. The face masks are attached to the head with the help of elastic ear loops or head bands.
FFP respiratory protection masks can be distinguished between 3 classes: FFP1, FFP2 & FFP3:
- FFP1 masks with a maximum total leakage of 25 %.
The face coverings filter non-toxic and non-fibrogenic dusts up to 4 times the maximum workplace concentration.
- FFP2 masks have a protective effect of at least 95%.
The protective face coverings can filter out solid and liquid particles, harmful dusts and other harmful substances up to 10 times the maximum workplace concentration.
- FFP3 masks have the highest protective effect of at least 99 %.
Coverings filter not only toxic substances, but also droplet aerosols, bacteria, viruses and radioactive substances from the air we breathe. FFP3 masks can be used up to 30 times the workplace concentration.
In our shop, you may purchase, for example, the Foldable FFP3 Mask with adjustable nose clip to for secure fit to the face and high wearing comfort. The facepiece respirator effectively protects against all kinds of particles with a filtering performance of more than 99% and a 5-layer filter. In addition to the inhaled air, the exhaled air is also filtered, which means that the FFP3 mask not only serves as protection for the wearer, but also as protection for others. This makes the FFP3 mask particularly suitable for use in COVID-19 risk environments.
If you are looking for coloured FFP masks, we recommend the Coloured FFP2 Mask. The mask is available in a wide range of colours e.g. blue, yellow, pink, black and more. The mask complies with DIN EN149:2001+A1:2009 with a filter performance of more than 94 % and offers optimal wearing comfort.
As an exhalation valve can introduce unfiltered exhaled air into the surroundings, it is not recommended to wear a particle-filtering half mask with an exhalation valve, e.g. FFP3, in certain healthcare situations because the valve may allow contaminants, e.g. Coronavirus, to escape and reach others.
