There are ready-made culture media in containers, such as immersion culture media, which are loaded with sample material and then incubated, and culture media that are individually prepared by the laboratory from a carrier (for example, Petri dish) and a culture medium like agar.
Sample carriers for growing cultures are usually sterile packed to prevent germs from the environment from falsifying the test result.
