Urine Test Strips
Urine Test Strips for Urinalysis in the Surgery and Laboratory
Urine test strips provide quick and reliable information regarding the presence of pathological, compositional changes during urinalysis. The procedure provides detection of increased glucose or protein concentration within the sample.
It even detects the presence of bacteria or urinary tract infections by measuring the nitrite value. As a result, the doctor can quickly determine whether antibiotics need to be administered
Evaluation of the parameter fields not only helps to draw conclusions on urinary tract diseases, but also point to other illnesses, such as the presence of diabetes mellitus.
Urinalysis carried out through test strips can be done anytime and anywhere without the need for additional preparations. The test results can be read within a few minutes and help the doctor with a fast assessment of the situation, as well as giving him the ability to immediately determine the appropriate treatment options.
Test Fields Provide Insight on the Respective Substance Concentrations
The urinalysis test strip consists of a plastic strip with multiple measurable parameters. Upon coming into contact with urine sample, the test zone reacts with specific substances in the urine and displays a characteristic colour response, which is read and organised by a colour chart that displays the corresponding substance concentrations. Depending on which disease symptom needs to be determined, the dipstick tests are equipped with different reactive fields. To prevent unwanted responses between the individual fields, excessive urine should always be wiped off after immersion.
Combur Urine Test Strips for Visual Evaluation
The Combur test strip series from Roche offers a wide range of diagnostic urinalysis tests. To gain an overview, the name of each Combur product includes the number of parameters it tests. Thus, the Combur 5 test strips test five parameters while a pack of Combur 9 contains nine parameter urine test strips.
The Combur strips are protected from the interference of vitamin C. This is particularly important for the determination of glucose values or the detection of microhematuria, since false-negative results are reduced by the presence of ascorbic acid in the urine. Additionally, the test fields react with clearly visible colour changes, even if the tested values are close to the detection limit. This effectively prevents reading errors and guarantees high sensitivity.
The Combur test strips are equipped with a robust carrier film, which prevents the sample from splashing during testing. Additionally, it is recommended to read the different parameters simultaneously after 60-120 seconds. The colour comparison scale on the package is lightfast and made of high-quality laquer printing.
An Overview of the most Important Urinary Parameters
Erithrocytes (red blood cells): Might hint at kidney diseases or urogential tract infections.
Bilirubin: Often hints at liver diseases or an obstruction of the bile duct.
Urobilinogen: The presence of urobilinogen often indicates acute or chronic liver diseases.
Ketone: In diabetic patients, a urine sample with ketone indicates ketoacidosis. Other than that, it indicates increased fat reduction with insufficient carbohydrate intake.
Glucose: The glucose value is higher in untreated diabetes, which makes this parameter suitable for use in screening examinations.
Protein: Unspecific hint to kidney diseases, more examinations are needed.
Nitrite: Important symptom for bacterial UTIs. If the first morning urine is used, up to 90% of bacterial cystitis can be proven by the detection of nitrite.
Leukocytes (white blood cells): Hint to infections of the urinary system and kidneys.
pH value: If the pH value is durably increased (alkaline), this can indicate the presence of a UTI. If the pH value is too high or too low (acidic) over a longer time period, there might be an acid-base imbalance.
Specific gravity: This parameter indicates how diluted or concentrated the urine is. It serves e.g. in monitoring the fluid intake and assessing the results.
In addition to the Combur test strips from Roche Diagnostics, Praxisdienst also offers Medi-Test urine rapid tests from MACHEREY-NAGEL.
Micral Tests for Control Examinations in Diabetic Patients
To monitor diabetic patients and for the early detection of kidney diseases, doctors use the so-called micra test. This medical urine test allows for the detection of microalbuminuria.
Urine Pregnancy Tests
In addition to urine infection tests and reagents for detecting blood, nitrite or albumin, we offer HCG tests to detect pregnancies. These quick tests are taken with morning urine, deliver reliable results and allow for early confirmation of a pregnancy.
