Jackets as Medical Workwear

Jackets are a seasonal element of medical workwear and are suited for medical personnel who spend significant time outdoors. This includes home healthcare nurses or doctors making house calls. Jackets are also worn by receptionists within medical facilities on especially cold winter days.

Unlike the common jacket, a doctor's jacket is conceived for medical activities. In order to achieve maximum freedom of movement, a material containing elastane may be used.

For a nurse's jacket, there should be as many pockets as possible to offer space for pens, notes and medical instruments.

Properly Wash Jackets

For hygiene reasons, jackets worn in medical facilities should be regularly changed and washed in short intervals. Unlike doctor's trousers, scrubs and other medical clothing articles, jackets for doctors and nurses are usually washable at lower temperatures (typically, between 40° and 60° C).

The addition of a disinfectant detergent may be advised, if the jacket is worn in hygienically critical areas.
