Disposable and Reusable Instruments
Reusable surgical instruments are medical instruments that can be used multiple times on various patients. To allow for this, they are reprocessed after every use. Disposable surgical instruments, on the other hand, are single-use medical instruments that must be disposed after use. Disposable scalpels are thus completely disposed of after use. The advantage of disposable scalpels is two-fold: reprocessing costs are eliminated and the risk of injury to medical staff is reduced. Scalpel handles can be reusable and must be reprocessed after use. However, since blades carry a high risk of infection and must always be sharp, blades for reusable handles have to be disposable; they are supplied individually, sterilely packaged.
Disposable Surgical Scapels
The sterile disposable scalpels that we stock are available in various designs; they differ not only in the different blade shapes but also in their safety mechanisms. A classic example is the Disposable Scalpel from Teqler, available with nine different blade shapes. The surgical scalpel is precision ground and made of high-quality specially hardened steel.
The Aesculap Safety Scalpel from the manufacturer B.Braun significantly reduces the risk of puncture and cut injuries for medical staff. Thanks to an easy-to-use safety mechanism, the scalpel blade can be completely retracted into the handle after use and can then be disposed of safely. You may purchase these surgical scalpels made of carbon steel in convenient packs of 10.
Handles for Multiple Use
The appropriate scalpel handle is determined by the required blade shape, also known as the figure. The stainless steel No. 3 Scalpel Handle is suitable for blades with the figure 10 - 15. Blade figures from 20 - 24 require the No. 4 Scalpel Handle. We stock compatible surgical scalpel blades for all our handles.
The Scalpel Blade Remover made of stainless steel from eks is suitable for safely removing used blades. In addition, we also offer sterile Thread Knives with handles made of plastic with a grooved grip area for cleanly cutting through suture. All the thread knives that we stock have a sterile shelf life of 5 years.
