Cautery
Cautery & Cauterisation Accessories
A cautery is a piece of medical equipment designed to remove unwanted or harmful tissue by means of an electrical current during electrosurgery. At the front end of the electrosurgical device there is usually a fine wire loop which is heated by means of an electric current. An electrosurgical unit consists of a generator and a handpiece with one or more electrodes. Electrosurgical generators are machines which can produce a variety of electrical waveforms. Electrosurgery and electrocautery may be carried out in the modes monopolar or bipolar.
We offer several different types of cautery equipment. The Disposable Thermal Cautery Pen, for example, is a battery-operated single-use instrument that is disposed of immediately after use to prevent transmission of infection between patients. These electrosurgical devices from FIAB are available in various designs and, depending on the model, are suitable for use in ophthalmology, dermatology, gynaecology or general surgery.
Reusable electrosurgical units, such as both the rechargeable and battery-operated Cautery Pen Set from Faromed, can be combined with various platinum-iridium tips and can be autoclaved after use. This makes them particularly economical in application and use.
In addition, in the cautery category you will also find medical Disposable HF Cauteries for single use, which are used together with a high-frequency electrosurgical unit. The individually sterile-packed cauteries are equipped with an international 3-pin connector and thus ensure universal usability.
Possible Applications for Cautery
In electrosurgery, cauterisation is used, for example, to burn and seal blood vessels. This helps reduce or stop bleeding during surgery or after an injury. The machine can also be used for the targeted removal of growths, such as warts or tumours. Cauterisation should be avoided, however, if the tissue needs to undergo histopathological examination. The use of a cautery machine can lead to destruction of the tissue, which makes examination difficult or impossible.
Depending on the current intensity and the duration of the current flow, cautery either cuts or vaporises the tissue touched by the electrode.
Cauterisation can be used for small incisions, resections or depressions, as well as for subungual hematoma drainage or for ophthalmological operations.
