Anatomical Models for Veterinary Use
Anatomical models are three-dimensional representations of the anatomy of the body, body parts or organs, which are used in medicine to provide visualisation of the anatomical structures. One differentiates, however, between skeleton models, training models, organ models and acupuncture models. Visual teaching aids help students and apprentices in veterinary medicine to exactly describe and understandably present surgical procedures, for example.
Wall charts are also used in veterinary medicine for visualising and naming the individual structures of the respective animal. People with little or no medical knowledge can easily understand the terms and allocate associate them with the structures, accordingly.
One differentiates between the following veterinary models:
Animal Acupuncture Models
Anatomical animal models for visualising acupuncture points are classified as animal acupuncture models. These three-dimensional representations are made of soft materials so that the application of acupuncture needles can be realistically trained. One can also use these models to practically apply his/her theoretical knowledge.
Animal Organ Models
Just as implied by the term, these anatomical models display individual animal organs or organ systems. Most often, these models are constructed to allow for the organs to be removed from the respective body part and even disassembled. This helps one understand how the individual body parts relate to each other.
Animal Skeleton Models
Skeleton models are used to visually reflect anatomical conditions. These plastic moulded models realistically emulate bones and provide a natural representation of various skeletal structures. There are also recreations of joints from which functionality can be displayed and on which joint injections can be trained. The ligamentous apparatus that connects the individual bone structures is also represented in plastic. Skeletons that have not been moulded i.e. they are still in their original state, are often known as skeleton specimens.
Specimens
Other forms of specimens are prepared examination objects that can be viewed under a microscope. These are particularly suited for expanding one's microscopic analysis skills, which make them excellent training material for veterinary students and apprentices.
