Veterinary ECG Machines for Small & Large Animals

Veterinary ECG machines are one of the most commonly used pieces of monitoring equipment in veterinary practices and enable electrocardiograms to be performed on dogs, cats and other small and large animals.

During an ECG examination, electrical currents emanating from the heart are recorded and displayed in the form of an ECG curve. Just like in human medicine, ECG recording in veterinary medicine is a non-invasive, painless procedure that is easy to perform. The ECG examination is performed on animals in the lateral position - anaesthesia is not necessary. Veterinary ECG machines are connected to the animal's extremities using clamp electrodes; if necessary, chest electrodes are also attached. 

Heart rhythm disturbances can be reliably diagnosed on the basis of the ECG curves recorded with the veterinary ECG machine. The electrocardiogram provides important information about heart rhythm, heart rate, excitation formation, excitation propagation and excitation regression.

Stand-Alone & PC-Based Veterinary ECG Machines

Similar to human medicine, there are a variety of ECG devices available for use in veterinary medicine. On the one hand, you will find classic stand-alone devices, where the ECG curves are shown on a small display and printed out immediately with an integrated thermal printer.

On the other hand, you may opt for a digital veterinary ECG device which is connected to a PC where recordings can be evaluated, stored and printed with the help of software. 

The latest generation of  veterinary ECG machines is smartphone-based and allows fast, mobile ECG examinations in a wide variety of animals. As the ECG module only has to be placed on the animal and does not have to be connected with the help of electrodes, such ECG monitors are also suitable for fearful and resistant animals.
