Wound Closure - Bestsellers
Veterinary Wound Treatment
There are various methods of wound closure in veterinary medicine which depend on the level of difficulty of the wound or injury that needs to be treated. Closing wounds can be done under full narcosis or sedation and depends upon the location and extent of the lesion. In this category, you will find the widest variety of materials for closing all types of wounds.
Wound Closure with Surgical Needles
For wound suturing in veterinary medicine, pointed or sharp-edged and sometimes rounded needles are required, which can be used individually in combination with the required threads. Surgical needles with a closed or rounded eye to which one must add a thread are known as traumatic needles. The choice of suitable needle for wound closure depends on the tissue that is to be sutured. The wound needles are available in various versions that differ by size, thickness, shape and eye type. While needles with a rounded profile are more often used for eye and colon operations, surgical needles with a triangular cross-sectional profile, which simultaneously cut and penetrate, are used for suturing larger tissue like skin layers or muscles.
With Praxisdienst, you will find surgical needles for veterinary medicine which are used for suturing various surgical wounds and injuries.
Suture for Animal Surgery
All needle-thread combinations and pure threads for threading belong to the Sutures category. The needles that are already connected to a thread are known as atraumatic needles. They do not cause extra tissue damage while suturing because the puncture point remains very minimal due to the very slight fluctuation between the diameters of the needle and thread. Depending on the type of tissue being sutured, either absorbent or non-absorbent threads are used. Absorbent suture is used if internal organs or subcutaneous fatty tissue needs to be sutured. These threads dissolve on their own and do not require special disposal; thus, minimising the risk of infection. Non-absorbent threads must be removed by the veterinarian. These are good for accessible body areas so that the removal can be done in an uncomplicated manner.
Tissue Adhesives for Closing Surface Wounds
For smaller surface wounds, it is often not necessary to suture the wound edges. However, the wounds must be closed to allow for improved wound healing. Tissue adhesive (skin glue) does not further traumatise the damaged tissue and minimises the risk of infection, thanks to its antibacterial components. Anaesthetising animals is not necessary because treatments with skin glue is painless.
Wound Closure with Skin Staplers
The use of skin staplers allows for thorough closure of longer surgical wounds, making it a suitable alternative to classic wound suture. The minimal scarring and prevention of allergic reactions to the suture justifies the use of skin staplers in veterinary medicine.

Praxisdienst offers you flat spools and suture racks for clear and clean storage of your surgical wound closure products. The required suture utensils for the operation can be safely and accessibly stored to keep them readily available for the veterinary personal during operations.
