Product Description

Braunol Skin and Mucous Membrane Antiseptic

Braunol from B. Braun Melsungen AG is an aqueous antiseptic wound solution. The active ingredient of this solution is povidone-iodine and belongs to the germicidal medicines or antiseptics. It is used to treat damaged and injured skin in animals, for example to clean or flush infected wounds or superinfected skin conditions.

The medicinal product can be used for the treatment of the skin as well as the mucous membrane, allowing undiluted but also diluted application with reliable effect. In addition, the medicinal product is intended for repeated, yet time-limited use. The iodine is released after the povidone-iodine is applied to the skin and reacts on the surface against the germs, which are thus killed.

The solution is perfect for use in veterinary medicine due to its rapid onset of action, which already sets in after 15 seconds, as well as its broad spectrum of efficacy. The germicidal agent is effective against bacteria, viruses and fungi as well as against tuberculosis bacteria and protozoa. Thanks to the natural brown colouring of the iodine contained, the sprayed area is clearly visible and the application is thus more economical.

For a preoperative disinfection of the skin, the corresponding area must first be freed from fur and dirt. The solution is then applied to the entire area.

Note: The povidone-iodine solution is a medicinal product available only on prescription.

Questions about this product?
Frequently Asked Questions
How should I use Braunol?

Braunol can be used diluted and undiluted. The body parts to be treated must be thoroughly dampened and must remain moist during the entire exposure time.

When is Braunol used undiluted/diluted?

Braunol is used undiluted when disinfecting the skin at puncture, injection and operation points. It is recommended to dilute Braunol for antiseptic rinsing, washing or bathing.

Dilution Ratios:

  • Rinsing for wound treatment: 1:2 - 1:20
  • Antiseptic washing: 1:2 - 1:25
  • Antiseptic partial baths: approx. 1:25
  • Antiseptic full baths: approx. 1:100

Please respect the dilution ratios given in the data sheet and use suitable dilution solutions.

My solution is no longer the typical brown. Why?

The brown colouring of Braunol is a typical characteristic of the iodine component. If the preparation is significantly discoloured, it will no longer be as effective.
