Excavator
The double-headed excavator from Wittex is a double-ended dental hand instrument for removing carious dentin near the pulp. At both ends, the excavator has small, sharp spoons of about 1-2 millimetres in diameter, similar to a sharp spoon. The carious tissue is scraped out (excavated) with these. In veterinary medicine in particular, the excavator is preferred to the rose borer because the disturbing turbine noise is eliminated.
