Elizabethan collar for dogs

The Elizabethan collar for dogs is used to protect wounds following operations from being licked or nibbled by the dog. The transparent Elizabethan collar, which does not impair the dog's vision unnecessarily, is simple to close with a fastening clip and can be easily put on or taken off over the dog's head. Frequently Asked Questions
How long can the dog wear the Elizabethan collar for?

This should always be decided by the vet on an individual basis. The Elizabethan collar is generally worn for approx. 10 days, i.e. until the stitches are removed or the wound has healed.

Can the Elizabethan collar also be used for facial wounds?

Yes. In the case of facial wounds, e.g. follow eye operations, the Elizabethan collar prevents the dog from scratching with its feet or against objects, thus protecting the wound.

How is the Elizabethan collar secured to the head?

The Elizabethan collar is fitted with plastic loops around the neck, through which a dog collar or gauze bandage can be threaded. Bandages and collar should only be fastened tightly enough to prevent the Elizabethan collar from slipping over the head, without interfering with the animal's breathing.
