Quick tests for veterinary medicine
The rapid tests in this category play an important role in the veterinary laboratory. The quick tests enable the diagnosis of a large number of highly contagious, widespread and major infectious diseases. The tests include all necessary materials, are particulary easy to use and give results within minutes.
How they work
The majority of veterinary rapid tests are sandwich immunoassays which function by means of an antigen-antibody reaction. The test cassette contains specific antibodies that detect and visualise the antigens from a sample. Different sample materials are used depending on the type of test. These include whole blood, serum or plasma, but also conjunctival swabs, urine and stool samples.
An important tool for the diagnosis of many infectious diseases
Common infectious dog diseases, for which a rapid test provides important information, are for example leishmaniasis, distemper or heartworm infection. These diseases are particularly common in animals from Mediterranean countries or street dogs.
Heartworm detection in dogs
Heartworm, for example, has now spread almost worldwide. Besides dogs, other animals and even people can become infected. The problem is that only a few symptoms can be observed and most of these only appear during the early stages of the infection. This makes the use of a heartworm quick test all the more important in order to ensure early, accurate and quick detection.
Each pack contains five test cassettes, one bottle of buffer solution and five disposable pipettes, so only a timer is needed. The test contains specific antibodies that recognise heartworm antigens and make them visible in a reaction field. In addition, an internal control procedure ensures the accuracy of the heartworm rapid test.
The microscopic parasites of the small intestine are not only found worldwide, but are also the most common intestinal parasites - especially in young animals. The rapid Giardia test allows for the detection and visualisation of Giardia antigens from a dog or cat stool sample. The test gives you accurate reults within 10 minutes.
Parvovirus Test for cats and dogs
This highly contagious and often fatal viral disease usually occurs in dogs. New variants even occur in cats. The main symptoms of parvovirus are diarrhoea, vomiting and loss of appetite. It can also cause inflammation of the heart muscle. The quick and easy test is carried out using fresh dog or cat stool samples.
Distemper virus detection
Canine distemper is particularly widespread in unvaccinated dogs from animal rescue services, shelters or even in puppies. The virus attacks the skin, the gastrointestinal tract and the immune and nervous systems, although the signs of infection can vary greatly. The advantage of the distemper quick test is that it can be performed with conjunctival swabs, serum, urine and stool samples.
FIV & FeLV Test
Quick tests play an important role in the diagnosis of FIV or FeLV in cats. With this practical combined test the two viral diseases can be tested together, saving both time and money.
Both the FIV and FeLV rapid test can also be bought separately. Whole blood, serum or plasma can easily be used for the detection of feline leukaemia virus. Another practical feature is that the FeLV rapid test can be stored at room temperature without any problems.
