Vet Tongue Sensor
The Vet tongue sensor from Nonin Medical can be used in combination with the PalmSAT® 2500A VET pulse oximeter. It can be clipped on different tongue parts, on the ears, the foreskin, vulva or the Achilles tendon.
Positioning of the Tongue Clip
In general, the tongue sensor can be used on every translucent body part with good blood circulation. The tongue is the most common body part to use the clip on, as it can be clipped on the tip, the right or the left side. After positioning the sensor, wait between 10 and 15 seconds until you receive a stable signal. If you don't get any measurements, move the sensor to another part of the tongue and wait again. Please take care that the weight of the cable doesn't exert a pull on the sensor, and that the patient's tongue doesn't shiver as a reaction to medication.
Other suitable body parts for measurements are the ears, lips, flews and the foreskin and vulva of larger animals. Even the Achilles tendon can be used to get stable measurements. In any case, you need to be careful to choose a body part that is poorly pigmented, free of fur or plumage, and is well supplied with blood.
