Animal Identification
Animal identification of Small and Large Animals
Animal identification is an important measure and, depending on the type of animal, is even required by law. For large animals and livestock, identification is a legal requirement, as cattle, sheep, goats and pigs must be registered with the competent authority. Identification and assignment of the animal is only possible by means of distinct marking.
In the case of small animals, such as dogs or cats, the main reason for animal identification is to make it easier to find lost animals and return them to their owners. Thus, for example, the use of a chip reader in the animal shelter is particularly useful, as they are usually the first point of contact for animals that have been found or are missing.
If dogs and cats are to take part in international travel, identification with a microchip is obligatory, as they must be always clearly identifiable.
Electronic Animal Identification with Microchips
Pets, but also horses, cattle, pigs, sheep and goats should be clearly marked for various reasons. The most secure method is electronic tagging with a special RFID microchip.
The ISO transponder, for example, is the worldwide standard transponder that is placed under the skin of dogs and cats as well as equines and cattle for identification purposes. The unique identification is achieved by a worldwide unique 15-digit numerical code of the RFID microchip, which can be read quickly and easily with an RFID chip reader. The advantages of the animal chip for pets are that it covers the identification obligation in international travel and that a lost or stolen animal can be reliably identified by a chip. Furthermore, the RFID microchip is completely painless for the animal, can be injected as early as puppyhood and offers a lifelong application period.
Microchipped animals are not obviously marked for the finder and must therefore be presented to a vet who reads the RFID transponder with a microchip scanner.
Various animal chip scanners, such as the AEG Full-ISO ARE H5 handheld reader ARE H5 with large scanning range and a database for storing up to 2047 scans, the handheld microchip scanner for all common ISO transponders, ISO microchips and injectors are available in our online shop in a comprehensive selection.
What is the Difference between Trovan and ISO Transponders?
An animal chip is a so-called RFID transponder and belongs to the passive transponders. It uses the energy of the field generated by the chip reader during reading to send stored data.
The Trovan transponder system is one of the first transponder systems for animals. Nowadays, it is mainly used in research institutions and is suitable for the electronic identification of dogs, cats, horses and cattle. The individual code can be read by means of a special scanner. The ISO transponder is now the worldwide standard transponder, which is also placed under the skin of dogs, cats, horses and cattle for identification purposes. The ISO transponder contains a unique 15-digit numerical code. Both the Trovan pet chip and the ISO transponder work without a battery and passively. The chip is therefore only activated by electromagnetic waves from the scanner.
Tattooing of Dogs and Cats
Tattooing dogs and cats in the ear is used less often nowadays because the colour fades over time due to cell renewal of the skin. Thus, the pet is no longer clearly identifiable after a few years. Nevertheless, the tattoo pliers enable precise and uncomplicated marking, which is, however, performed under general anaesthesia.
Temporary Animal Identification
Temporary animal identification using livestock marking pens or marking sprays, such as Génia's IDENTIX spray, is usually used to mark pigs, sheep, goats or other domestic and farm animals, for example when a specific treatment or measure is to be carried out on several animals. It can be used to mark all animals that have already received deworming, claw care or vaccination. Colour markings can also be used well for proof of mating.
At Praxisdienst you will find the right tattoo pliers and tattoo colours as well as numbers and letters for tattooing pets at reasonable prices.
What is the Difference between Tattoo Pliers for Dogs and Cats?
The models for dogs are suitable for cross tattooing and allow marking with up to seven characters with a height of seven millimetres. The pliers for tattooing cats, on the other hand, are used for longitudinal tattooing. You can also use them to apply up to seven characters, but with a height of five millimetres.
