AeroKat - Aerosol Chamber for Cats

AeroKat assists in the inhalation of aerosols by cats with asthma, for example. This aerosol chamber is combined with a metered-dosage inhaler and can be used to help treat feline asthma or chronic bronchitis.

As metered-dosage inhalers deliver medications at a very high speed of approx. 100 km/h, it is not possible for cats to inhale the medication without the help of an aerosol chamber. The AeroKat stores the medication in the chamber and allows the cat to inhale the fine particles naturally. The aerosol chamber separates the rough particles that are generally deposited in the mouth and nose from the fine particles that can penetrate deep into the lungs of the cat, where they are needed.

The inhalation of medicated aerosols often reduces the side effects that can be expected with the use of pills and injections. AeroKat is, therefore, often recommended for the treatment of feline asthma. You can use it with your cat in the comfort of your home.

Application of the AeroKat

Using the AeroKat with your pet cat is quite easy. Ideally, you should slowly introduce the mask to the cat and place it over the nose.

After the metered-dosage inhaler is attached to the back of the AeroKat, it should be shaken gently. Press the inhaler (the aerosol now flows into the chamber) and place the AeroKat mask slowly over the cat's face and nose. Make sure the mask is fully closed. The movements of the flow VU indicator (green) show that the animal is breathing. Count the number of breaths and leave the mask over the nose of the cat for 5-6 breaths. Follow the instructions for the inhaler medication before repeating the process.

We recommend consulting your veterinarian before using the AeroKat.

Aerosol Inhalation Therapy – AeroKat makes it possible

Thanks to the AeroKat* and Flow-VU indicator, respiratory illnesses in cats can be effectively treated. The aerosol chamber is suited for treating feline asthma, chronic bronchitis or allergic rhinitis.

Structure of the Aerosol Chamber for Cats

  • 2 respiratory masks: complete coverage of the mouth and nose; eyes should not be covered
  • Inhalation valve: highly sensitive, minimally-resistant valve, developed for low-volume respirations
  • Antistatic chamber: stores the medicated aerosols and allows the cat to take more time to breath in/inhale the fine medication particles
  • Universal inhaler port: can be used with all common inhalers

Please note: AeroKat does not work with dry-powder inhalers

When only using an inhaler, it is imperative to coordinate each dose of medication with the animal's respirations. These processes must be carried out simultaneously, which is not realistic with a cat. The medicated aerosols would then only be sprayed onto the throat and mouth of the animal and would not reach the respiratory tract. Treatment without this device is ineffective in improving the cat's health.

The Small Aerosol Chamber with Great Efficacy

Targeted treatment of respiratory illnesses helps to reestablish and maintain an animal's health and quality of life. The AeroKat allows cats suffering from feline asthma to inhale the correct dose to improve their symptoms.

The functionality is simple yet intelligent: the chamber located between the metered dose inhaler and respiratory mask stores the medicated aerosols sprayed into it. Small and large particles are separated from one another so that only the fine particles can be inhaled while the larger particles stick to the walls of the spacer. The fine particles can pass into the lungs unhindered and take affect. Because the atomised medicated aerosols initially remain in the chamber, the cat can simply inhale the active ingredients while breathing normally.

Using the Aerosol Chamber

The cap should first be removed from the mouthpiece of the inhaler. Shake the inhaler well and insert the mouthpiece into the universal adapter on the back of the chamber. The respiratory mask on the other side of the chamber is then to be set onto the mouth and nose area of the cat. It is important to ensure that the areas covered by the mask are completely sealed so that no aerosols can escape during exhalations. If the respiratory mask is properly located on the cat's nose, the inhaler can be activated and the dose released into the chamber. The atomised particles will collect in the chamber and the coarse aerosol particles will remain on the wall of the spacer. The fine particles will be inhaled through the cat's normal breathing pattern and reach the lungs.

The frequency of sprays is dependent upon the severity of the illness and the prescribed dose.

For sensitive and skittish animals, the spray should occur before the mask is applied.

Introducing the cat to the aerosol chamber can take some time. The animal can be carefully wrapped in a towel to safely hold it during the treatment.

Flow-VU* Indicator for Visually Monitoring Breathing

In order to monitor the number of breaths taken, the AeroKat chamber from Trudell is equipped with a Flow-VU indicator.

When introducing the cat to the aerosol chamber, it can happen that the animal first attempts to interrupt his breathing or hold his breath. In order to ensure that the preparation is being inhaled, the indicator irregularly moves toward the cat when the aerosol is being inhaled. As the Flow-VU indicator can perceive breaths with very low resistance, it is possible to reliably monitor the effectiveness of the inhalation process. Upon completion of the inhalation, the indicator automatically returns to its original vertical position and remains here until the next inhalation. In this way, the cat's breaths can be easily counted.
