The Healing Effect of PRP

Platelet-rich plasma has emerged as a significant regenerative therapy and is used by many doctors in various medical fields to treat a wide variety of diseases of the musculoskeletal system and hair loss, in lieu of traditional pharmaceutical drugs. Platelet-rich plasma is obtained from taking the patients' venous blood and running it through a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets using special PRP tubes.

Platelets have a high content of various growth factors and cytokines. In order to release these, platelets must first be activated. This can be induced either physiologically or artificially.

Platelet-rich plasma therapy is a form of regenerative medicine that can harness the body's ability to heal itself and amplify the natural growth factors the body uses to heal tissue. Growth factors have regenerative and anti-inflammatory properties and can be used for the treatment of numerous diseases but also for a wide range of therapies in the field of aesthetic medicine.

To increase the effectiveness of PRP therapy, the autologous plasma composition can be combined with medications, homeopathic remedies, vitamins or hyaluronic acid before injection.

This principle is based on autologous blood therapy, in which approximately 5 ml of blood is taken from the patient's arm vein, prepared and re-injected into another area of the body, preferably via a gluteal intramuscular injection. The blood injected into another part of the body is perceived by the immune system as a foreign body, so that the body's own defences are stimulated. Treatment with autologous blood is considered to be a non-specific stimulation therapy and is used against diseases such as allergic reactions, skin diseases and many more.

PRP Tubes

Depending on personal preferences and indications, you can choose between two different tubes for the production of PRP. PRP tubes without gel are available for users who would like to have the option of including a small portion of the erythrocytes in the PRP. These are provided with the anticoagulant sodium citrate so that blood clotting inside the tube is prevented.

For the preparation of pure PRP in high concentration tubes with an anticoagulant and a cell separating gel are the best option. The gel forms a barrier between the red blood platelets and the plasma, so that the two blood components cannot mix again. In this case, the collection of the plasma is also easier and faster.

When choosing which PRP tubes to use, make sure that they are approved as a medical device. In this way, you ensure that the preparation produced contains a large proportion of growth factors and remove the possibility of introducing a plasma poor sample to the patient, which can affect the results of the PRP treatment. Normal serum tubes without or with separating gel are not suitable for the production of platelet-rich plasma.

Centrifugation

Preparation of platelet-rich plasma can take place in the medical practice and does not require samples being sent to a laboratory. All that is needed is a suitable centrifuge and specially prepared tubes.

Due to the different weights of the individual blood components, they separate from each other in layers in the centrifuge and can be collected separately as required. After centrifugation for approx. 10 minutes at 1300 to 2600 g, whole blood separates into the components; erythrocytes, platelet-poor plasma and platelet-rich plasma.

Depending on the treatment, the PRP can be collected and used appropriately with the help of a disposable cannula and syringe. If necessary, further processing of the blood plasma is also possible.

When purchasing a suitable centrifuge, it is important to ensure that it has a swing-out rotor and is designed to hold tubes with a capacity of 15 ml. Depending on the blood tube used for the PRP treatment, the centrifuge should also be able to reach the required maximum speeds.

PRP Therapy in a Range of Medical Specialties

Thanks to its extensive efficacy, many specialists in human and dental medicine use PRP for treating a broad spectrum of medical disorders and achieve good results. It is a natural alternative to pharmaceutical drugs and is also more readily accepted by patients than conventional medicines, which usually have a wide range of possible side effects.

Vacusera PRP Tubes from Disera in our shop

The PRP tubes with sodium citrate from the manufacturer disera are optionally available with or without gel. They are approved as a class IIb medical device and guarantee a pure and reliable end product. The collection of platelet-rich plasma is extremely easy with the sets and effectively eliminates the risk of contamination.

The sets consist of three different tubes. Regardless of the variant, the PRP tubes contain sodium citrate, which prevents blood clotting. The third blood tube is a re-suspension tube, where the concentrated preparation can be collected. Storing autologous blood concentrate in the re-suspension tube guarantees a homogenous product for up to 60 minutes.

If required, the PRP tubes are also available as a PRP kit including all consumables necessary for preparation.
