A wound wrap is typically applied with the help of compresses, padding, self-adhering bandages and adhesive tapes. In order to prevent the animal from licking and gnawing, the compression bandages are often applied with bitter substances.

With almost all wraps in veterinary medicine, padding plays an important roll, as it not only serves to absorb wound secretions and keep the dressing from sliding, but it also prevents the occurrence of pressure points and oedema.
