Infrared Heaters & Lamps
Heat lamps commonly feature incandescent bulbs, designed to generate as much heat as possible via infrared radiation. They are often referred to as infrared lamps, infrared heaters, or IR bulbs. Within veterinary medicine, two types of heat lamps are used. Large-animal veterinarians and farmers use the lamps as infrared heat radiators in the stalls of young animals, such as lambs, piglets, bunnies and other rodents, or for incubation, as they provide a safe heat source. Veterinary practices and clinics, on the other hand, mostly use standing models of the lamps with special functions, depending on requirements. It is important to choose a suitable heat lamp in order to achieve optimal treatment results. In addition to supplies like heat lamps and replacement bulbs, you will also find heat mats with even heat distribution in this category.
Infrared Heat Lamps for Veterinary Medicine
It is recommended to install the heat lamp in a way that allows animals to move away from the emitted heat. This helps prevent skin injuries and overheating. If installed in an outdoor enclosure, a power outlet protected from water and moisture should be available to avoid damage to the lamp and its components.
It is also advisable to position the lamp protected from environmental influences. The Profi Infrared Lamp IL50 by Beurer features a large, glazed infrared surface and powerful 300 watts. Its tilt angle can be adjusted from 0–50° to optimally target the patient.
Heat Lamp for Veterinary Physiotherapy
For muscle injuries or tension, especially in the back area, using a red light or infrared lamp is recommended to achieve a gentle and effective treatment. The generated heat promotes better blood circulation in the skin and muscles and has a positive effect on the animal's overall well-being.
For targeted treatment of tense areas, the infrared lamp is directed specifically at the affected muscles, helping to relax them and allowing fascial adhesions to be released more easily through targeted manual techniques. The splash-proof Infrared Energy-Saving Lamp by Kerbl reduces energy costs by up to 30% while providing excellent heat transfer. At 240 volts, the lamp has an operating life of approximately 5,000 hours.
