Surface Disinfection Wipes – Differences in Spectrum of Activity

The spectrum of activity for most disinfection wipes includes bactericidal, yeasticidal, and limited virucidal effects. In areas with high hygiene requirements, it is also important to ensure a full virucidal effect. For example, the Meliseptol® acute Wipes are ideal for disinfecting operating tables and surgical equipment due to their effectiveness against bacteria, yeasts, and both enveloped and non-enveloped viruses. They can also be used in other areas, such as disinfecting patient couches or cleaning and disinfecting keyboards and monitors.

In medical practices where Norovirus or Rotavirus contamination is a concern, the Bode Bacillol 30 Sensitive Tissues from Hartmann are particularly suitable. These alcohol-based wipes offer a broad antimicrobial spectrum against fungi, bacteria, enveloped viruses, and some non-enveloped viruses (including Norovirus and Rotavirus). Due to their low alcohol content, the ready-to-use wipes are gentle on materials and, depending on workplace safety requirements, can also be used without gloves.

For applications requiring an extended spectrum of activity, including sporicidal effects, the Incidin OxyWipe S from Ecolab is recommended. These hydrogen peroxide-based disinfectant wipes not only provide virucidal and bactericidal efficacy but also offer a sporicidal effect, including activity against spores of Clostridium difficile.

Surface Disinfection Wipes – Suitable for Various Surfaces

When using disinfectant wipes, it is important to consider not only their spectrum of activity but also the material of the medical devices and the size of the surface to be disinfected.

For example, Cleanisept Wipes Tissues are ideal for alcohol-sensitive surfaces. These wipes are alcohol-free and based on quaternary ammonium compounds, making them perfect for disinfecting ultrasound heads and probes without mucosal contact.
