Blood Collection Tubes for Clinics, Labs & Hospitals
At Praxisdienst, you will find a wide selection of blood collection tubes suitable for both vacuum and aspiration techniques, along with other essential accessories. Using the aspiration technique, the plunger of the blood collection tube is pulled back like a syringe during the draw, creating a vacuum that allows the patient’s blood to flow into the tube more efficiently.
Colour Coding by System
| Test Type | Monovette | Vacutainer |
| INR / Quick, PTT, D-Dimers | Green | Light Blue |
| EDTA | Red | Purple |
| Lithium Heparin | Orange | Green |
| Serum | White / Beige | Red / Yellow |
| Sodium Citrate | Purple | Black |
| Sodium Fluoride | Yellow | Grey |
Correct Order of Collection is Crucial
To ensure accurate and reliable analysis, it is essential to follow the recommended order for drawing blood into the individual tubes.
Collection should begin with blood cultures, ensuring aerobic bottles are filled first, followed by anaerobic bottles. Next, proceed with clinical chemistry samples, filling tubes with gel separator first, followed by tubes without gel. Finally, complete the blood collection in the following order for optimal results: Citrate 1:9, Heparin, EDTA, Citrate 1:4, and Fluoride.
Monovettes, Microvettes and Sedivettes from Sarstedt for Blood Analysis
The Monovettes from Sarstedt are particularly popular for blood analysis. These sterile blood collection tubes allow for safe venous blood sampling and are suitable for a wide range of analytical applications. Depending on the parameter to be tested, the tubes are prepared with different additives and colour-coded to prevent errors. For example, our online shop offers the white-labelled Sarstedt S-Monovette for serum collection.
This serum tube contains a plastic granulate that is treated with a coagulation activator. This ensures complete blood clotting, allowing subsequent centrifugation to separate the serum from the solid components of the blood.
In addition, our online shop offers the red-labelled EDTA tubes, also known as S-Monovettes for haematology. The potassium EDTA contained in the tube prevents clotting, allowing accurate measurement of ions, proteins, and hormones. For other analyses, such as blood glucose testing or coagulation studies, you can find the S-Monovette for glucose determination (yellow) containing fluoride salt, the S-Monovette for coagulation analysis (green) containing citrate, and plasma tubes with heparin (orange) for plasma collection. The Monovettes are available in packs of 50 pieces.
For determining the erythrocyte sedimentation rate, you can use the citrate-treated S-Sedivette with a 3.5 ml volume, which allows sedimentation measurement without transferring, or the Microvette CB 200.
This sterile Microvette is a three-part system designed to measure the sedimentation rate of a capillary blood sample. With a required sample volume of only 200 µl, it enables a particularly patient-friendly blood collection and analysis.
