Urine Cups for Urine Examination

Urinalysis is an integral part of laboratory diagnostics and provides important information on the presence of a wide variety of diseases - from diabetes to kidney damage to urinary tract infections. Special containers such as urine cups and bottles are used for urine collection and, if necessary, send it to a laboratory for further examination.

These plastic containers are made of a sturdy, unbreakable material, such as PP, and are equipped with either a snap-on lid or a screw cap. Especially if the urine is not examined on site but forwarded to a laboratory, urine cups with a screw cap should be used. The capacity of urine cups is usually 125 ml.

Generally, containers for urine collection are graduated so that the amount of urine can be read and documented. Many containers for specimen collection have a labelling field - with all other cups, the lid can be labelled with the patient's name using a permanent marker. To ensure safe, hygienic filling and simplify handling, urine cups generally have a large diameter. This allows the urine sample to be dispensed directly into the cup.

Special, individually packed sterile urine cups made of polypropylene with a green screw cap are available for this purpose. In contrast to the non-sterile urine cups, which are packed in packs of 100 or 500, the sterile specimen cups can be ordered individually.
