Bone Curettes

Bone curettes, also known as Partsch curettes or sharp spoons, are sharp-edged, scoop-shaped surgical instruments that are used in medicine for debridement, for removing granulation tissue and for scraping out wounds. Curettes are medical instruments that are most frequently used in dental medicine and dermatology. They are also used in gynaecology, e.g., to remove tissue from the uterus when taking a biopsy or performing dilation and curettage procedures.

Use of Curettes in Dermatology and Dentistry

In dental medicine, bone curettes are sharp-edged instruments that are used to clean the alveolus after a tooth extraction, to remove cavities from the dentine via smaller bone curettes (excavators), as well as for calculus removal. An additional application for these surgical instruments is for scraping inflamed tissue during excochleation.

In dermatology, medical curettes are most often used for surgical wart removal but can also be used for taking skin scrapings of skin lesions.
