The earlier the formation of these pockets is detected, the more efficiently the progression of the disease can be countered and the appropriate treatment can be started.
To determine the depth of the gum pocket, special instruments called periodontal probes or PA probes are used. These blunt PA probes feature a marking that indicates the depth of the pocket.
The Wittex Periodontal Probe, for example, has a fine tip with markings at intervals of 3, 6, 9, and 12 mm.
The ribbed handle of the WHO probe ensures a secure grip during the examination. The dental probe can, of course, be disinfected and sterilized.
