PA Probes for the Dentist

In dentistry, as part of prophylaxis and during check-ups for the early detection of periodontal diseases, the depth of the gum pockets is also measured. During a bacterial inflammation of the gums, gum pockets typically form, mostly in the interdental area.

The earlier the formation of these pockets is detected, the more efficiently the progression of the disease can be countered and the appropriate treatment can be started.

To determine the depth of the gum pocket, special instruments called periodontal probes or PA probes are used. These blunt PA probes feature a marking that indicates the depth of the pocket.

The Wittex Periodontal Probe, for example, has a fine tip with markings at intervals of 3, 6, 9, and 12 mm.

The ribbed handle of the WHO probe ensures a secure grip during the examination. The dental probe can, of course, be disinfected and sterilized.

Periodontal Probe with Blunt Tip

The periodontal probe with an atraumatic ball tip allows the dentist to gently examine the pocket depth. The spherical tip prevents injury to the gum during measurement.

The round instrument handle is textured and provides a particularly secure grip, even with wet hands. The instrument, made of stainless steel, has an overall length of approximately 15.3 cm and can be hygienically disinfected and autoclaved after use.
