Etching Agents for Enamel and Dentin for Dentists
For enamel and dentin etching, various etching agents are used for the chemical pre-treatment of the dentin surface. The etching gel or liquid typically contains 35% phosphoric acid and is applied thinly to the tooth. After a short drying period, the mineral-depleted dentin remains, making it suitable for the application of primers, bonding agents, and restorative materials such as composite.
Adhesive Technique
The adhesive technique in dentistry refers to a bonding method used when placing composites or crowns. After the cavity has been cleared of caries, the tooth surface must be treated with a special acid. The phosphoric acid roughens the enamel and removes the smear layer from the dentin. However, the acid should only remain on the tooth for a few seconds and then be thoroughly rinsed off with water and air. Depending on the system, a one- or two-component bonding resin is then applied to the cavity.
