Matrices and Finishing Strips for the Dental Practice

Various tools are used in dental treatments, such as restorative therapy. Matrix bands made from different materials are used to separate the approximal area during fillings whenever the filling needs to be placed mesially or distally. The matrix serves as a form aid to ensure that the filling material does not spread beyond the tooth.

In the anterior region, dentists usually use a transparent matrix. These bands are available in various materials and widths. To finish the margins of the filling in the interdental space, polishing or finishing strips are used. Matrix Bands

Whenever the approximal area between two teeth needs to be filled, a matrix is required. Using this matrix, whether for a composite or plastic filling, is painless for both children and adult patients.

The band separates the interdental space and prevents the filling material from sticking to the neighboring tooth. This allows the dentist to easily condense the soft and moldable filling material into the tooth cavity, making subsequent finishing much easier.

In the posterior region, Tofflemire matrices with the corresponding Tofflemire matrix holders are commonly used. These metal bands are made of very thin steel and can be adjusted precisely around the tooth.

After placing the filling and allowing the material to set, the band is simply removed. In addition to metal matrix bands, we also offer transparent polyester matrix bands.

This plastic band is especially suitable for use in the anterior region of the upper or lower jaw when placing composite or other plastic-based fillings. The band is supplied as a convenient roll and is available in various widths.

Interproximal Polishing Strips

Once the filling has been placed and shaped, the transitions and interproximal spaces between two teeth need to be finished. For this purpose, finishing or polishing strips are particularly suitable. They are inserted into the interproximal area with the coated side facing the filled tooth.

The Roeko polishing strips are made of abrasion-resistant polyester and come in a dispenser pack with a tear-off feature. This allows the strip to be cut and dispensed in the desired length. The polishing strips are supplied on a 10-meter roll in various grits.

With consistent back-and-forth movements, any excess material or interfering contact points with adjacent teeth are removed, allowing for seamless transitions between tooth and filling.

The advantage of these finishing strips is that they protect the gums and allow the individual tooth shape to be carefully finished. Especially with composite fillings, this ensures an aesthetic result that is equally satisfying for both patient and dentist.
